DSG Water Polo

The Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) and St Andrew’s College both had a full week of sporting activities during the past week.

Diocesan School for Girls

Last weekend DSG hosted most of the water polo and basketball fixtures against Kingswood, with all matches besides the 1st team water polo match, on their campus.

In the water polo, DSG won four of the six matches played, and the 1st team had a great game, overturning their loss to KC at the St Stithians tournament a few weeks back, by winning the match 7-6.

Special mention is made of Mia Van der Nest, who was outstanding in the goal, and captain Erin Jarvis, who was making her return from injury and scored a couple of crucial goals.

Basketball

DSG BasketballIn the basketball, the U16A team narrowly lost 8-6 to Kingswood. While the 1st team went down 24-2, their performance was encouraging and a definite improvement from earlier this term.

Tennis

Enya Kemp was chosen to attend the recent Eastern Province Trials tournament in Port Elizabeth. The trials were held to select the U15 team to attend the SA Schools tournament in 2018.

Enya was placed in a very strong group and played some fantastic tennis in her three round robin matches, ending up third in her group. She nearly beat the eventual winner of her group, going down in the third set tiebreaker.

Enya can be proud of her efforts.

Swimming

In swimming, the Border age-group gala was held in East London last weekend and Courtney Repinz, Emma Podesta, Shaelyn Walker and Riley Cawse made the trip to swim for DSG. The girls all put in good performances, especially Courtney who placed third in the both the 100m and 200m backstroke events.

Dylan Marx attended the U15 Eastern Province tennis trials last weekend and really did himself proud, winning all his round robin games and then going on to win the final.

He has consequently been selected for the EP U15 side to play at the inter-provincial tournament next year. Well done to him!

On Friday the Stayers Tennis teams will be playing their last fixture of the year against Kingswood College with the 1st Team away and the U15A side at the DSG.
